Professional-racing slot cars were the result of the lack of suitable racing machinery by the toy manufacturers, forcing the better amateurs to engineer and build their own. First as members of factory teams, then as independents, these racers advanced the technology to what it is today, a perfect understanding of what make these cars work. At the same time, few of the manufacturers ever paid any attention and are still marketing often poorly running cars of which good looks are their greatest asset.
