Description

This beautiful Mirage car was found at auction in Southern California, along with a formula one car also built by Terry Schmid. Terry was the 1966 Rod & Custom series champion and the Car Model series 1967 champion. As a member of the famed Team Checkpoint, Terry designed and built his own chassis, powered by Bill Steube Sr. rewound Mabuchi FT16D motors. Pictures here show the car as found as well as after minor restoration, and with a sister chassis donated from the Bruce Paschal collection. The period picture in the magazine shows an almost identical chassis. These were built shortly before the 1967 “flip-flop” body-mounting system invented by John Wessels.
