Slot cars were born in England, and when in 1957, the first Scalextric toy sets appeared, it did not take long for America to embrace the new hobby. For 7 years, the hobby grew to the point when large American toy manufacturers took the burgeoning hobby by storm and transformed it to the largest form of public amusement in the country. American kits are the best, and other countries took their inspiration from them. Hong Kong and Japan also participated to this and manufactured parts for American slot car kits and RTR produced by some large outfits such as Cox, Monogram and Revell. South American countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Argentina also found inspiration in the United States for their domestic production.
