Description
Champion’s first model was this Lola GT, commonly called “Mecom-Lola” after the famous Chevy powered car that astounded the racing community in Nassau at the end of 1963. The chassis was their already marketed aluminum sidewinder, powered by the brutal “707”, a rewound, balanced Mabuchi FT36D with the new Arco magnets. Quality gears by Weldun and silicone-content tires made these cars a force before the hand-built pro-racing cars took over.
In this early package, the Lancer-sourced body was unpainted but quickly, that changed and most genuine cars were painted in bright gold.
