Description
The first model of the second series of Champion RTR was this 1966 Ferrari 3-liter F1 of which the body was sourced from Pactra. The chassis was a beautiful brass and steel affair manufactured by Aoyagi Metals (AYK) in Japan for Champion. Two versions exist, the first being nickel plated, the later being zinc plated in a gold tone. The motor was an evolution of the “507”, now in a nickel plated Mabuchi FT16 case with a new one-piece can bearing, a Champion Celcon endbell and the same armature as on the “507”. Dubbed “507R” (for “reverse” drive, with the pinion on the endbell side), this motor was the first to receive the molded Arco magnets with their plated steel shim. Tires are black neoprene sponge.
