Description
If you are looking for the very first angle-winder slot car ever built, look no further, this is one of the few built by Roy Moody, the inventor of the design. Built in late 1967, it became an inspiration for Gene Husting that introduced the design to the 1/24 scale pro-racing world, which it took by storm in early 1968.
Roy invented the angle-winder motor mounting because he wanted to use the powerful Mabuchi FT26 motor in his 1/32 scale cars. Mounting the motor in sidewinder fashion would mean that to clear the rear axle, the gears would have to be very large, and so would the tires.
By angling the motor and notching the can for more clearance, he was able to keep the size of the gears small enough to allow for small tires, and was able to keep a desirable gear ratio.
This chassis as well as others on these pages, were restored by Robert Hackl, a friend of the LASCM.
