Description
This car was built in 1968 and represents the last generation of Lary Shinoda’s wild slot car bodies, produced by Larry himself on the General Motors R&D small vacuum forming machined designed for making prototype parts.
The chassis is typical, a “Detroit Slider”, using a Dynamic motor mount, a Dyna-Rewind brass tongue and a design allowing the whole body to slide forward and back as well as sideways. The motor is a Dyna-Rewind “26D” made from an original K&B “Jaguar” stock motor. The “White Circle” silicone tires were extensively used at “The Groove”, the favorite raceway where these cars were run.
The now mythical “Groove” was the center of action for Detroit Thingies.
The last pictures show another form of Detroit Slider chassis and yet another wild body design by Larry Shinoda and one from a meeting at The Groove in 1967, picture courtesy of the defunct “Model Car & Racing” magazine.
