Jim Russell was a pioneer in the history of slot car racing in the United States. After manufacturing styrene body kits to use on Strombecker chassis, Russell introduced his own car kits featuring injected bodies. In 1966, the 1/24 Scale “Carrera Series” kits set new standards for vacuum formed bodies. Other series included the “Black Widow” RTR cars fitted with dual motors and four wheel-drive, and an upgrade of the earlier Spyder-series kits, now in ready to race form and fitted with vacuum formed bodies. Russkit was caught in the downfall of the hobby in 1968 but today, Russkit cars are highly prized by collectors for their inherent beauty and elegance.
