One of slot racing golden era’s most important companies, Monogram Models was founded in Chicago in 1945 by former Comet employees Jack Besser and Robert Reder. Monogram was first known as a manufacturer of balsa wood model kits. The company’s first kits reproduced World War II ships and airplanes and provided the first inexpensive yet accurate wartime models for beginner builders. When polystyrene injection-molding techniques became mainstream in the early 1950s, Monogram used their tremendous talents to produce the sharpest injected model airplanes, boats and cars kits in the business. Monogram made their entry in the slot car racing hobby in August 1964.
