AMT was one of the first to capitalize on the burgeoning commercial slot racing market in 1964. They introduced several kits with aluminum frames in the 1/25 & 1/32 scale, powered by Mabuchi type 35 motors. By 1965, a new series of 1/25 scale RTR cars as well as 4 more kits, all fitted with a new brass chassis and the Mabuchi FT36D were introduced. AMT slot car kits used their 1/25 scale static kits bodies with added glue-on body mounts and specific interior details, sometimes made of vacuum formed white Styrene. The last effort were a pair of “Thingies” in the 1/24 scale, after which AMT returned to the business of plastic model kits.
