1964 Adam & Sons Quad MK1 RTR chassis

This is one of the slot car collectors "Holy Grails". This intricate fully assembled chassis was issued by a small company in California. It featured an aluminum frame and suspension on all four corners, using machine screws blocked with a thread locking paste. The Kemtron motor drives the rear wheels through angled gears, a set of fully machined and jointed drive shafts, later replaced by injected nylon parts, and H-section machined aluminum wishbones. Suspension was by steel wire acting as torsion bars. The wheels and tires were Riggen items, the front tires ground in a ball shape. The width of the rear axle was quite excessive due to the complex suspension. The steering was fully functional. A&S also issued a ready-to-race version featuring a Monogram Ferrari 275P body with painted and detailed driver. it is not known in what kind of packaging such models would have been sold.

A later second version of the Quad MK1 featured welded chassis assembly and now injected-nylon drive shafts.
This rather expensive proposition was issued at a time when the claims of "world's best handling" were common, and if any of it were true, it would have sold indeed in large quantities. It did not as other much less expensive new products simply smoked the A&S on the few tracks where it ever ran. Few have survived and are highly sought after by the learned collector. This one is new in its box. Please note that the sticker on the box top is not damaged, but the address has been removed by the manufacturer itself as they moved to another location. At least two different styles of markings are known to exist on the box top, the other being an ink stamp. It is unknown which is earlier.
