"La Cucaracha GT" RTR

Two years after issuing the Cucaracha "roach" and after upgrading it, Cox went back to the body mold and modified it to receive a plated roof structure and a taller window set. The chassis was also upgraded with a longer drop arm, a new trailing guide (unique to this model) and a new motor made in Hong Kong by Cox International. This "Super NASCAR" motor had no vent holes to improve the magnetic field, but proved troublesome and many failed as the can bearing collapsed inside its housing. Cox issued replacement motors in the form of standard Cox 3600 "NASCAR" motor and most used models found today have this replacement motor.
The new body had front fins and a slot in the engine compartment to receive the tab holding the roof on the blue polypropylene body. New metalized stickers completed the model, sold in a new display box with white and blue graphics. The model rested on a black display tray inside the box. A kit of parts was provided: an extra windshield for an open version of the model and a chrome tree with roll bar and gas caps.
A separate body kit was also available, sold on a card under a large blister.
