1959 Lotus-Climax 2.4-liter Formula One

One of the early models by Wallingford, this Lotus Type 16 was driven by Cliff Allison and Graham Hill in days when the future world-champion team was at the edge of switching both ends of their cars. Frank Costin designed the Vanwall-like streamlined body on these pretty cars, nowadays the terror of vintage F1 racing in the front-engine class.
The motor is a Pittman and the axle bracket is a lost-wax bronze casting made in collaboration between Gene and Dick Dobson. The wheels are 1/32 scale AMT with British printed wire inserts, more than likely by MRRC. The fiberglass body has lost its windshield over time. Note the notch on the right side to clear the motor. These models HAD to be practical too!
